Small Modular Nuclear Reactors, A Big Step Forward
I’ve long been an advocate of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and it’s something we should have committed to decades ago. Successive governments kicked the can down the road, leaving us exposed to energy insecurity and rising costs.
That’s why yesterday’s announcement that Rolls-Royce SMRs could be deployed alongside Sizewell C and potentially across the East Midlands, is welcome news. It’s a major leap forward for UK energy independence, and a massive job creator for our region.
Yes, we need renewables, and I’m all for them, but they can’t do it alone. At least not until battery storage and grid tech catch up, we must have a balanced energy mix. That means producing our own clean, reliable, and secure energy here at home.
This is how we cut bills, keep the lights on, and create high-skilled jobs in communities like ours. Let’s get moving. No more delay.
