Craig Smith, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for North West Leicestershire, is asking for the views of local people after the Labour Party announced their latest plans for building solar farms in the countryside.

Reported in The Times Labour’s shadow environment secretary said a Labour government would give ‘much greater freedom to [farmers to] build wind turbines and solar arrays on their land.’

Craig is asking what local people think saying “I want to hear the views of my neighbours here in North West Leicestershire. Planning for our energy needs is important, but so is food security too.

“Should restrictions on building unsightly wind and solar farms be removed as Steve Reed suggests or is he right in saying ‘aesthetic concerns’ about our countryside are less important than other factors?

“Perhaps aesthetic concerns aren’t as important to Mr Reed in his London constituency, but does the countryside matter to us in North West Leicestershire? I think it does.”
